Mission Statement: In true Unitarian Universal Spirit, our goals are: - to empower people to live better lives, as they serve God and humanity - to minister to the less fortunate - to encourage truth seeking - and, to be a ministry of compassion in times of both joy and sorrow.
UUFAM is a modern manifestation of historical Unitarian Universalism. 1) God is the Divine unity that encompasses all of reality. We do not define God otherwise because we perceive any definition of God as arrogance and self-limiting. 2) We accept the core ethics and teachings, particularly those of Jesus, as found in the Bible and in other Christian gospels. We also acknowledge that inspiration and guidance for living may be found in the sacred scriptures of other faiths as well as in secular works, such as those of science, history, philosophy and literature. 3) We believe that each person is called to make a significant contribution to society and that each "Unitarian Christian" has a ministry. We believe that every person has the same rights as every other person without regard to sexuality, ethnicity, race, or any other negatively discriminatory categorization. 4) We believe that each person should be intellectually autonomous and should have the absolute right to determine for him or herself any meaningful and responsible religious beliefs and practice. We do not attempt to impose our beliefs on others. 5) We believe in reason and truth as we pursue a relationship with the Divine. We cherish scientific inquiry. We are open to new discoveries. We reject dogma as dogma is viewed as demeaning to the essence of what it means to be human. 6) We believe that prayer and meditation is a way in which one may communicate to the Divine.
